Sunday Downloads - Angus and Julia Stone

As promised, November's Sunday Downloads are about what albums I've downloaded.  Individual song downloads are more popular now than an entire album.  So when I find an artist who's whole album is worth the purchase, I like sharing the discovery.

Angus and Julia Stone are a brother and sister duo from Australia.  They have a very quirky indie folk pop sound. (And yes smartie pants, that is the technical genre title.)  :P Their album "Down The Way" came out March 2010 and about three months later I discovered it.  And I haven't quit listening to it yet.  This album is from my more mellow selection but they have a very unique sound.  His voice is a little gravely and her is slightly raspy and tiny (like the country music star Alison Krause.)

There are several songs on this album I love.  My utmost favorite (and arguably my favorite song ever) is "Draw Your Swords." (It's the conviction in his voice during the third verse that makes me want to rip my clothes off. Is it hot in here or is it just me?) Since I featured this song on my website before, I've picked a tamer, more "mainstream" song from their album, "Big Jet Plane."

Through their uber cool website you can hear several of their songs.  A few more can be heard from their video selection.  I've heard their music in a Covergirl commercial and they are also featured on the new Breaking Dawn album.  (Their "indie" days are numbered.) Here is the track list and I've starred my favorites:

For some reason I can't get the video to embed, so here is the link to "Big Jet Plane":
