Ready. Set. WRITE. Week 2

My first thought was to post the title as "Epic Fail." But that's really an unfair/negative take on a week of changes and challenges.

How I did on last week’s goals:
Of the 7,000 words I had hoped to write, I wrote 2,785. More successfully I wrote almost 2K in scene notes and character sketches, which will really help me draft as I move along.

My goal(s) for this week:
1. Make notes (notice I didn't say the word "outline")for the next two chapters.
2. Put butt in chair.
3. New unexpected goal: Work revisions for novel currently out on submission.

A favorite line from my story OR one word/phrase that sums up what I wrote/revised.
Where my annoyed MC describes the car of boy she will eventually fall in love with.

"The Swinger is on the fritz again." Flynn shrugs.
Who in the heck says “fritz” or drives a seventies Mopar called a Swinger for God’s sake? His old car is the automotive equivalent to Salvation Army t-shirts.

The biggest challenge I faced this week.
Making writing a priority.  I let a few speed bumps and hiccups keep me from putting butt in chair.

Something I love about my WiP.
The dynamics and chemistry between this huge group of friends surrounding my MC and make it one of those EPIC summers you cherish for a lifetime.

  1. 2785 is still 2785 more than you had last week! Ha! My husband still has a shirt he bought at the Salvation Army in high school. I keep meaning to let the washing machine eat it...

  2. 2,785 is more than you had before. Don't beat yourself up, Dana. I always try to think positively about word count, even if I just add 100 more. :-) Love the snippet you shared. and LOL I totally say "on the fritz" :p and I'm 25 :P

  3. Your excerpt rocks, Dana! Also, 2700 words is pretty excellent, especially because I know (via Instagram) you were busy with travels and family. So, congrats on forward progress! And best of luck meeting next week's goals. :-)

  7. I love what you shared from your WiP! And don't feel bad about not meeting specific goals. It sounds like you figured out a bunch of stuff, and you really can't underestimate how important that is. Like you say, it'll smooth out the way ahead a bit and that's awesome! Hope you have a wonderful week, Dana! :D

  8. Does NOT sound like you had an epic fail, girl! You wrote almost 3K and made a ton of notes - way more than none at all. :) And LOVE the lines from the story! I hope you get that butt in the chair and that you have a wonderful writing week!

  12. Sometimes character notes can actually be more important than the words you write in a week. So what if you didn't achieve your goals? You have important information which will make writing this week so much easier!
