Do you remember the Kaiser Chiefs?  At first I wondered how freaking long has it been since they made music.  Not too long apparently, 2012.  But it must not have made it big in US.  But we all remember their hit song in 2007 "Ruby." Well this morning, I found this little gem and instantly fell in love.  The video is fantastic.  I love "one shot" music videos (one continuous long take from a single camera.) Especially when they are done so well.  The meaning behind the small details of the video coordinate with the song, and are really rich here.  If you're paying attention to the lyrics and what you're seeing you'll notice them.

And you probably already noticed, the release date isn't until April 1, 2014.  Sorry for the teaser, guys, but this song was too delicious not to share.  Take a bite, and enjoy.

Lyrics "Coming Home" by Kaiser Chiefs

Do you wish you hadn’t stayed all night?
Do you wish you hadn’t gotten so high?
Do you wish you hadn’t come on home.
Gotta go.

Do you wish you wasn’t half as gone?
Do you wish you didn’t last that long?
Do you wish you hadn’t come on home.
Gotta go.
Gotta run.

May I remind you
May I remind you that you’ve got nowhere to go.
So I’m standing beside you
I’ll stand beside you until you find out if I come.

We’re coming home.
We’re coming home.
Light a fire.
We’re coming home.
We’ll write it down
We’ll write it all down.

And we dance along the finest line
Between the chance of the time of our lives
Wishing you were done. Oh no.
Gotta run.

And we’re choosing not to make that choice.
And we lose our shoes and our voice.
But we had a lotta fun on the way
Wanna play.
Gonna come.

May I remind you
May I remind you that you’ve got nowhere to go.
So I’m standing beside.
I’m standing beside you until you find out if I’m home.

We’re coming home.
We’re coming home.
Light a fire.
We’re coming home.
We’ll write it down
We’ll write it all down.

We’re coming home.
We’re coming home.
Light a fire.
We’re coming home.
We’ll write it down
We’ll write it all down.

?????

We’re coming home.
We’re coming home.
Light a fire.
We’re coming home.
We’ll write it down
We’ll write it all down.

  1. Loved this song on the first listen and was pleasantly surprised to find the video just as enjoyable. Very tough to pull off and thus, I applaud them for the "mistakes" that were left in.

The 1:09 mark is the only time Ricky Wilson goes out of frame. I suspect this was because he ran up to the camera a bit too fast immediately before that.

Wilson stops lip synching at 1:40 when he gets to the "lose our voice" lyric. Brilliant.

At 1:34 he passes Nick Baines in the bathtub. At 1:54 Baines gets out of the tub and mounts a scooter while the other band members ride bicycles past Wilson. I don't know if it was planned, but it appears that after a couple of strides Baines realizes he'll never catch up. He then picks up the scooter and sprints, passing Wilson at 2:05.

At 3:10 the band rolls the tea cart towards the center of the path. It had been placed to the side to accommodate the camera tracking backwards. This happens again at the end before they settle into the lawn chairs. Wilson picks his up and moves it.

The tea break is the only time when the camera stops moving. When Wilson gives the gesture for them to resume walking, he starts strong, then slows right down. It's clear he sees the jousters about to enter the frame. As they maneuver around, at 3:40 the guy on the left loses his footing.

At 3:53 Wilson has run up to the camera so fast he's out of focus. A nightmare for the focus puller I'm sure.

I'm sure there are other tidbits I'm missing that others might have noticed. But again, great song, great video--I hope it turns out to be the hit for them that they deserve.
