What I'm Reading
REBEL BELLE by Rachel Hawkins!  I don't know if you guys follow Rachel on twitter, but the woman is crack-me-up funny. And guys, this cover is GORGEOUS! I'm enjoying the story a lot.  Especially because it's set in the south, Alabama to be exact. Since my current story my agent has AND the book I'm working on are both set in the south, it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy that I'm on target with Big A list authors who are coming out with similar settings. (That was one ridiculously long sentence.)  The book doesn't come out until April 8, 2014, but I am lucky enough to have super special buddies who get arcs and let me borrow them.  Thank you, Liz!  If you loved Hex Hall, you'll love this book even more.

What I'm Writing
Does what I worked on last week count? I finished my revisions for my agent (I'm going to see how many times I can say "my agent" in one post.) And so I'm supposed to be working on my draft that I started forever ago. But I've been busy redoing my office.  Remember several weeks ago I did a What Up, Wedny? and talked about how beautiful rooms inspired me.  Well my office is coming along BEAUTIFULLY!!!!!  I need to have a garage sale to get the last of the stuff out of there AND THEN I can paint the room.  That's going to take me a while because I'm a slowwwwwwwww painter. I promise, when I'm done I will show you pictures.  I even have a corner in my office with all my art supplies organized.  It's organized so pretty too.  Can't wait to share the final product.

What Else Have I Been Up To
I'm trying to get ahead of the game this year, the madness of Christmas shopping game. This year I'm going to have all my shopping done and wrapped before Thanksgiving.  I think I can do it.  Last year, it was down to the wire.  Not. Fun.  I'm also wanting to get my Christmas cards done (not out just done) by then too.  Thankfully I don't have to get our picture taken because we are using a family photo that we took in Belize earlier this year.

What Inspires Me
Christmas decorations!  For majority of my adulthood, I've used hand-me-down christmas decorations.  Its a hodgepodge of decor that looks more like an estate sale than a decorated home. Slowly but surely I've had to toss the tired worn decorations. They were so beat up, I couldn't even donate them to Good Will. The last few Christmases I told myself that I'll hit the after Christmas sales to save some bucks. It's slim pickings at the after sales.  And I felt like I was only adding to the hodgepodge look I loathed.  Well with my recent home redecorating, I was inspired this year to go with a silver and white theme. It goes well with my growing snowflake collection.  I don't like doing the red and green because red stresses me out.  But I'm sure I'll add touches of green. So the last few weeks I've been hitting up every TJ Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods and I've finally completed my Christmas decor looting.
Quirky reindeers, mercury glass, drift wood and twine trees, and sparkly snowflakes.  These decorations are inspiring me to get ready for Christmas!

  1. I love Rachel Hawkins! I'll definitely have to put this book on my TBR.
Great Christmas decorations. A lot of mine are old hand me downs too, mixed in with things I've randomly bought through the years. But I don't care- I love Christmas! Everything is beautiful at Christmas time!

  2. I fear I might become intolerable if/when I get an agent. "Dad, can I have a turn on the computer?" "Talk to my agent!" "Dad, can I have a raise on my allowance?" "Talk to my agent!" "Can you take out the trash?" You get the point. ;)

I'm a huge Christmas fan--both the spiritual and cultural aspects. And nothing makes me *happy-sigh* like a beautifully Christmas-decorated house (inside and out). I've always wanted to have Christmas shopping done well before Christmas. We've come close, but there are always those last minute ones...

All the best with your writing and organizing this week, Dana!

    1. Ha! Well I have to confess, Colin, at home anytime someone spoke to me I was like. "Hey, you know what? I got an agent." or "Hey, talk to my agent." It drove my boys crazy. It feels good to finally be in this place of "agented." And my outside decorations are just as grandiose.

  3. Hi Dana. I remember when I first started blogging and trying to take my writing more seriously, I came across Rachel's blog. She had an incredibly fascinating inspirational post on not giving up. It was all about how she got an agent and went on to sell her debut. It was fantastic and I remember it to this day. I think she was calling her job at the time, the Black Hole of Suck.

    Anyway, great post. Wonderful decorations!

    1. Oh the Black Hole of Suck...I just did a post the other day about "Writing Doesn't Have to Suck" and my journey with my writing to agented. It's a tough road. Glad you found inspiration to keep going.

  4. I love Rachel Hawkins, and yes, she is hilarious! you can say 'my agent' as many times as you want, you deserve to. I can't wait to do the same some day! Christmas shopping is insanity, which is why I do the majority of it online. have a great day!

    1. Prerna Pickett is the best name EVER! I might have to use that in a book some day. Awesome name. And yes, I have done A LOT of shopping online, majority actually. But there are some things you just have to buy in person. Oh the dread of shopping with the masses.

  5. What's up, Agency Sister!! I didn't know you did this meme!

REBEL BELLE looks really good! I'll have to add it to my teetering TBR pile.

Your decorations sound awesome. Share some pics once you get festive enough to put them up! :)

    1. Wuz up, sistah! I don't do it every week. And actually, I've only done it twice, counting today. lol. But I want to get in the regular habit of it. It helps me communicating with great new writers....like my fellow sister! I will most definitely show festive pictures once I'm done. I have to because my boys don't appreciate the decor half as much as the work I put into it.

    1. I have to admit, Alison, in the past years I've put less and less Christmas decorations out. I think in part because of them falling apart and the whole hodgepodge look but this year, with my fancy new decorations, I'm so excited I could pee in my pants! (not really.)

  7. I'm so not ready to think about Christmas yet. I love it, just not in early November. Saddly, my husband is going to be traveling for work for most of December, so I'll probably end up putting off my jubliee even farther. I'm glad you're feeling festive though.

    1. If I don't get started now, then I will run out of time and be out in the wild at the last minute. I've done that too many times. It ain't pretty. Sorry your hubby won't be there, but I hope you get some friends or family time that day at least.

    1. Thats for the well wishes. I'm excited for the next stage of this process. I went out on Sunday to buy some stuff and it was already starting to get crowded. Parking was a pain. Ugh. Get your shopping in while you can!

  9. Your house is going to looks so pretty for Christmas! I love the idea of a silver and white theme. Share pics! And getting your shopping done by Thanksgiving is a great goal. I always end up being last-minute even though I don't plan too. Luckily I don't have many people to shop for.

Looking forward to seeing pictures of your new office! I also love fawning over stuff like that. :)

It must be such an awesome feeling to be working with your agent!

  10. I follow Rachel on Twitter and she is fantastic. Yet, I haven't read any of her books... Boo. REBEL BELLE sounds awesome, though. It's definitely one I'll pick up! Can't wait to see photos from your new office. I'm hoping for an extra bedroom to call an office when we move next month... Fingers crossed! Congrats on finishing your revision, and I think it's perfectly acceptable to overuse "my agent" by the way. :-) Enjoy the rest of your week, Dana!
